We all know and agree that fashion and travel go hand-in-hand (hello! that’s why we are legit. Self 5!). In his interview with Condé Nast India, Business Of Fashion Founder/CEO, Imran Amed, once said, “Travel is the biggest inspiration for fashion designers.” Brooklyn’s graffitis, Rajasthan’s colours, London’s underground club scene and Greece’s cobbled streets have inspired many a collections around the world. But today we are talking about travel-inspired fashion labels from India that live and breathe #travellerforlife to inspire your next getaway wardrobe.

Shivan & Narresh

Designer duo Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja’s eponymous label was the first ever homegrown swimwear label in India. The boys, as they are lovingly called amongst the industry friends, soon forayed into resort/cruise wear as a natural progression. Today they’ve diversified their brand into mens wear, event styling, décor and wedding wear. All done with travel as constant inspiration.

Safomasi

The ex-Wieden + Kennedy Delhi art director, Sarah Fotheringham had dreamt of converting the ideas and influences from her travels around the world and within India into a design label for many years. But it was only when her partner Parvat Bhooker aka Maninder Singh, a Fashion Design Council of India alum (who played a role in helping Charu sneak into fashion week shows, more on this story later!) decided to back her up into taking the plunge, that Safomasi was born. While Safomasi is mainly a homeware/furnishing label, they also make lovely accessories like totes, backpacks, laptop sleeves etc. and we’ve definitely been eyeing their bomber jackets. What more, they also sell their lovely fabrics so that you can buy and make whatever the hell you want!

Nicobar

Nicobar is one of our most favourite travel-inspired fashion labels out of India is Nicobar. Millennial chic at its best! An offshoot of The Good Earth, one of country’s most loved homeware and design label, Nicobar created it’s own niche as a homegrown, easy-chic brand inspired by the love of travel. Nicobar caters to people who are often lost in the thoughts of wanderlust without the hashtag.

Deme by Gabriella

If we were to describe the aesthetics of Deme by Gabriella in just two words, it would be gypsy sexy. Although, Deme never advertises travel as her muse in a literal sense, her silhouettes and bold colours are apt for a sun-kissed goddess who’s ready to hop out of the pool straight to the red-carpet called beach.

These are our favourite travel-inspired fashion labels that have come out of India. Did we miss your favourite? Let us know in the comments below. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram to join in the conversation about fashion, travel, beauty and more.
