Chanel Cruise 2024/25: A Mediterranean Whisper For The Familiar

Under the Marseille sun, the Chanel Cruise 2024/25 collection unveiled itself as a tribute to the Mediterranean’s easy elegance and the city’s storied, unvarnished charm. We got to look at the clothes up close at the Preview in Delhi last week and it felt like Virginie Viard distilled a bit of sun, sea, and breeze into pieces you could wear to a yacht brunch or an art gallery opening.
Set against Marseille’s Old Port, the show earlier this year was an understated nod to the region’s nautical and cultural history. The fashion mirrored the locale: breezy and unpretentious. Crochet dresses and cardigans, slouchy knitwear and sequinned separates, diving hoods with press studs, all anchored by chains adorned with pearls and charms. While the collection was grounded in craftsmanship but adapted for real life. Yet, the collection wasn’t without its calculated touches of fantasy, from a handbag resembling a bar of Marseille soap, crochet tote bags laced with Chanel’s signature chain detailing, metallic lambskin backpacks, and minaudières shaped like perfume bottles added just the right dash of wit and whimsy.
Ultimately, Chanel’s Cruise 2024/25 was a study in contrasts: simplicity meets subtle extravagance, coastal living meets urban polish. For the Chanel woman who transitions seamlessly from the beach to the boardroom, it was a wardrobe that offered quiet confidence—a reminder that luxury needn’t shout to make an impact.
