“I want Kanika Karvinkop to do the New York packing list.” I was hell-bent on it because New York is my favourite city in the whole world and I wanted someone who’d do justice, someone who loves the city as much as I do if not more. To me, Kanika is easily one of the most talented stylists around, and not just within India. Her style is rustic, effortless with a hint of surprise. Kanika did a stint at Grazia India (that’s how we met) where she learned the ropes and sometime back she went solo. Since then it’s been such a joy to watch her journey unfold as a stylist. In the last one year, she’s styled for some of the most striking digital platforms and magazines including Refinery 29, Bullet, Wonderland and Nylon Germany. So, I called her and nagged her to create the ‘What To Pack MasterList’ for New York. Because, that’s what I do. So, here you go –

What To pack for new york by Kanika Karvinkop - runway square

Kanika Karvinkop

“New York is my soul city. I spend half of my year in NY and it breaks my heart every time I have to leave. I love that there is always something to do – from flea markets to block parties to art showcases to a million food options and theater outings. New York, simply put, is the heart of the world.

When packing for NYC, one thing you have to keep in mind is that it is a walking city. With all the vehicles and the traffic jams, the locals know that the best way to get around is by foot. Also, it is the best way to experience the city.

The New York weather is unpredictable, regardless of what month you are there, a coat/jacket should definitely be on your packing list along with an umbrella (rainstorms in NY come without a warning), comfortable shoes, cotton dresses (soft, light, breathable ones are perfect for a day in the park), a bustier, co-ords, boots and accessories to complete your looks.
