In Miami This Holiday Season? Spot The Snow Globe of Gucci’s Holiday Dreamscape
Gucci, ever the master of narrative and nostalgia, has conjured a dazzling festive wonderland in Miami’s Design District. The installation at Sweet Bird North Plaza is not just a tribute to holiday joy but a journey through the House’s storied past, where history and fantasy collide in an intricate tableau inspired by enchanted snow globes.
Until January 7, Gucci invites visitors to step into this immersive universe that pays homage to its founder, Guccio Gucci, and his early days as a porter at London’s Savoy hotel. It was there, among the travel trunks of the wealthy elite, that he first dreamt of the House’s iconic leather goods. This legacy is brought to life in a whimsical display of Gucci’s signature luggage, from monogrammed trunks to elegant valises, all nestled among miniature renditions of the House’s landmark locations.
These architectural jewels—Palazzo Gucci in Florence, the Wooster Street boutique in New York, and the flagship stores on Avenue Montaigne and New Bond Street—stand as animated homages to the House’s global footprint. Each scene is imbued with the kind of intricate craftsmanship that mirrors Gucci’s own creative ethos.
But Gucci’s Miami takeover doesn’t stop at snow globes. The surrounding plaza has been reimagined with bold Art Walls created by American artist Corydon Cowansage. Known for her biomorphic abstractions, Cowansage’s three murals are an audacious fusion of sensuality and surrealism. Undulating forms, suggestive of lips and laden with movement, play across a pale blue expanse. These shapes evoke the pioneering spirit of women like Judy Chicago and Zilia Sánchez, who used art to explore and redefine femininity.
Cowansage, whose work also graces the Kaufmann Repetto booth at Art Basel Miami, has lent Gucci’s festive celebration a provocative edge, her murals bridging the brand’s heritage with contemporary art. It is a partnership that feels as natural as a Gucci loafer slipping into stride—effortlessly chic and resolutely modern.
Meanwhile, the glow of Gucci’s festive cheer stretches across the Atlantic, where Palazzo Gucci in Florence has been illuminated in a harmonious nod to the season. This radiant façade, alight until January 17, connects Miami’s vibrancy with Florence’s heritage, a reminder of the House’s roots and its unwavering ability to reinvent itself while celebrating tradition.
In Miami, as in Florence, Gucci proves once again that it is not just a fashion house but a storyteller. And this holiday season, the story is one of celebration, craftsmanship, and boundless creativity.
