Nestled in the mighty Himalayas, the stunning valleys of Lahaul & Spiti in Himachal Pradesh are on the ‘Best-In-Travel Regions 2018’ list by Lonely Planet magazine.

The magazine describes Lahaul & Spiti as, “Kept bone-dry by the rain-shadow of the Himalaya, the ochre badlands of Spiti hide some of India’s most spectacular Buddhist art, while well-watered Lahaul has seldom-visited temples and a back route to Kashmir said to be one of the world’s most dangerous roads. Long overlooked by travellers rushing to Ladakh, this wild and wonderful area is finally starting to get the attention it deserves.”

While you’d like to pack your bags and go right away, there are a few things to keep in mind. According to wiki, the treacherous weather in Lahaul and Spiti permits visitors to tour only between the months of June to October, when the roads and villages are free of snow and the high passes (Rothang La and Kunzum La) are open. It is possible to access Spiti from Kinnaur (along the Sutlej) all through the year, although the road is sometimes temporarily closed by landslides or avalanches. Well, you’ve always have to work a little to get to heaven!

Along with Lahaul & Spiti valley, the other names on the list include Belfast & The Causeway coast (Northern Ireland), Alaska (USA), Julian Alps (Slovenia), Languedoc-Roussillon (France) and Bahia (Brazil).
