Well, looks like there’s no stopping the phenomenon that is NFTs and Metaverse. And while it seemed as if the NFT bubble might burst sooner or later, the increased interest and curiosity about the digital realm of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) has caught the eyes of many fashion brands leading to the beginning of a unique crossover between fashion, NFTs, and Metaverse in 2021. In the past year, we have had ASICS turns its sneakers into NFTs, J.W. Anderson sell a hyper-realistic digital copy of the viral Harry Styles cardigan, Louis Vuitton launch a mobile video game – LOUIS THE GAME with 30 embedded NFTs as part of the game’s collection, Nike acquire RTFKT (a brand specializing in sneaker NFTs), Balenciaga dress up characters in the online game Fortnite, Burberry launch an NFT (Sharky B) with Mythical Games’ Blankos Block Party game, Gucci auction Gucci Aria film NFT with Christie’s, and lastly, Ralph Lauren debut ‘The Ralph Lauren Winter Escape’ on Roblox with an exclusive gender-neutral digital collection. Yes, this all really did happen in a year! And now, just two weeks into 2022, we have Gucci announce an ultra-limited series of CryptoJanky NFTs and handmade ceramic sculptures in collaboration with SUPERPLASTIC.
Presented by Gucci and SUPERPLASTIC as ‘SUPERGUCCI’, this bespoke three-part series features exclusive NFTs, each accompanied by a ceramic sculpture handmade in Italy and co-designed by Gucci and SUPERPLASTIC. Each of these extremely limited and valuable NFT draws inspiration from Gucci’s signature patterns, icons, and symbols that have been reinterpreted by SUPERPLASTIC’s animated celebrities Janky and Guggimon. Like in the first release, the famous SuperJanky finds itself within ten different scenarios inspired by Gucci Aria. And as Gucci’s experimental online space, Gucci Vault will mark its expansion into the metaverse and host this new partnership wherein SUPERPLASTIC’s Janky and Guggimon will step into the imaginative dimension of Vault and find themselves in a space where past, present, and future co-exist.
Gucci accompanied the metaverse drop announcement with the sixth drop of pre-owned vintage Gucci pieces on Gucci Vault. So, if you admire one-of-a-kind vintage goodies, go and get yourself some distinctively precious Gucci before it all gets sold out. And well, MARK YOUR CALENDARS as the first collection of ten different, exclusive NFTs from SUPERGUCCI will be dropping on 1st February 2022 via SUPERPLASTIC and will be accessible through Gucci Vault.
