Aren’t we all planning for our next European adventure? Well, before you get onto sorting your travel plans, let’s first focus onto some serious skincare business. Though travelling leaves us feeling high on serotonin, it’s the long hours on cold, airless plane that not only test our patience but also bestow damage onto our skin regardless of whether we are cramped up in economy or stretched out in first class. So, here’s a quick post-flight skincare guide to help you and myself to get our skin back to its calm and glowing self after a long flight.

post-flight skincare
(L-R) Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser Rs. 1300, Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask Rs. 3860.81

While we are busy reading a new novel or watching movies, the dry air in plane continues to pull moisture out of our skin resulting in dehydrated, stressed and often inflamed skin. Therefore, exfoliation is a complete no-go after a flight. And instead, what we need to do is to reset our skin by strengthening the barrier layer, balancing the pH levels and restoring hydration. So, began by purging dirt and germs off your pores aka cleanse for clean and clear skin and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser is a perfect fit, after all this gentle face wash is not only suitable for all skin types but also helps in maintaining skin’s natural balance. If you are tempted to follow up with masking, remember to pick out a mask that’ll soothe and hydrate your skin like Instagram favourite Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask. Interestingly, you can use this cream mask as a hydrating primer under makeup too.

(L-R) Mario Badescu Aloe, Chamomile & Lavender Facial Spray Rs. 490, Clinique Smart Night Moisturizer Rs. 6190, the ordinary ha2% b5 Rs. 556

Before putting on a face cream/moisturizer, it’s essential to give your skin a boost by layering on Hyaluronic Acid serum after all you would have just spent better half of your day with moisture-sucking, recirculated air on plane. For me, there’s no Hyaluronic Acid serum that works better than The Ordinary HA 2% + B5. But remember to dampen your face with a soothing face mist before putting on HA serum. After serum, give your face some much needed TLC by sweeping on a barrier repair moisturizer like Clinique Smart Night Moisturizer (available for all skin types) and to get rid of puffiness in the eyes and make them feel more rested, use an intensive eye cream. My personal favourite is Forest Essentials Under Eye Cream with anise to help smoothen the skin around the eyes. Lastly, don’t forget to lather a lavender-infused lotion (Kama Ayurveda Lavender Patchouli Body Moisturiser) on your body to calm your senses. And be ready to fall into your beauty sleep.
